No Booze News 📈:
University of Michigan releases study on choosing to not drink

Brooke Arterberry and colleagues at the University of Michigan conducted a study involving 614 young adults who drank in the past month but abstained on some days.
Why you care: understanding the reasons for not drinking helps us connect with like-minded peers and supports our shared goals of living healthier, more empowered lives (i.e. we are not alone when we don’t want to drink).
Top reasons participants aren’t drinking:
Lack of interest in alcohol
Not wanting to get drunk
Avoiding alcohol on specific nights
Preventing interference with school or work
Financial priorities
Empowering insights from the study:
Women often choose not to drink due to a lack of interest, a desire to avoid getting drunk, and recent hangovers.
Hispanic participants and college students frequently avoid drinking to prevent negative consequences.
Non-Hispanic white young adults often simply aren’t interested in drinking on certain days.
What to walk away with: Embracing your reasons for not drinking can help you strengthen your resolve and make healthier choices.
Recognizing why you have those reasons empowers you to stand by your decisions and supports a community of peers who share similar values and goals, reinforcing the many benefits of an alcohol-free lifestyle.

Former Food Network star celebrates 6 months not drinking

Guess what? On Sunday, former Food Network star, Valerie Bertinelli, shared some incredible news—she's been alcohol-free for 6 months! 🎉✨
Why it matters: She tagged the Reframe app insinuating that this has helped keep her drinking in check along the way.
What is it?: Check out out Proofer Products section to see more.
A great reminder: Valerie reminds us that we don't have to do it alone. She shows us how we can rely on tools and support from others to help us achieve our goals, whether that's cutting back on drinking or giving it up entirely.

Wait, but why? 🤔:
Why does drinking alcohol increase your cancer risk?

Drinking alcohol is a common social activity, but it is important to be aware of its health impacts. According to NIH, alcohol is linked to about 5.5% of new cancer cases and deaths.
MD Andersen Cancer Center says this is why:
Acetaldehyde Formation: Ethanol in alcohol is metabolized into acetaldehyde, a carcinogen that damages DNA and impairs cell repair.
Hormonal Disruption: Alcohol disrupts hormone levels, particularly estrogen, promoting cell growth and division that can lead to cancer.
Nutrient Absorption: It hinders the absorption of vital nutrients essential for immunity and cell protection.
Weight Gain: Excess calories from alcohol contribute to weight gain, which is linked to increased cancer risks.
The bottom line: For those concerned about cancer risks, MD Anderson advises considering non-alcoholic alternatives and maintaining alcohol-free days.
Understanding the cumulative impact of alcohol on your health can help give you fresh perspective on not drinking than just avoiding a hangover..
