No Booze News šŸ“ˆ:

New study shows even light drinking harms health.

New research shows that even light drinking ups cancer death risk in older adults, especially if you have other health issues or live in a low-income area.

Hereā€™s the buzzkill: as you age, alcohol isnā€™t doing you any favors.

The Study:
  • Lead Researcher: Dr. Rosario OrtolĆ”, Universidad AutĆ³noma de Madrid.

  • Participants: 135,000 adults aged 60+.

  • Duration: 12 years.

  • Objective: Examine the effects of light and moderate alcohol consumption on health.

Key Findings:
  • Cancer Risk: Increases with even light drinking.

  • Heart Health: No benefits. Light/moderate drinking doesnā€™t lower heart disease deaths.

  • Moderate Drinking (20-40g/day for men, 10-20g/day for women):

    • Higher risk of death from all causes.

    • Higher risk of dying from cancer.

  • Heavy Drinking (40g+ for men, 20g+ for women):

    • Significantly higher death rates from all causes, including cancer and heart disease.

The bottom line: Moderate drinking might sound harmless, but itā€™s linked to a higher risk of death from all causes, including cancer. And heavier drinking? Letā€™s just say, itā€™s a fast track to the wrong kind of headlines.

Another win:The Zero Proof community keeps stacking up more and more wins as the data continues to point towards the notion that drinking is old news!

Theyā€™re one of us šŸ¤:

Andy Frisella on how success and alcohol donā€™t mix.

Andy Frisella came out and said that he doesnā€™t know a lot of people who are very successful who use alcohol heavily. He even goes on to say, ā€œIf you want to win big, this is not something to mess around with.ā€

Why it matters: In his comments in the video below, Andy is drawing a correlation between lack of success and alcohol consumption. Given he surrounds himself with hyper successful people, this is a good reminder to check yourself and your consumption if being extremely successful is one of your goals.

The bottom line: Andy is part of our tribe and his blunt message is one we should take to heart.

Drinking Heavily ā‰  Success.

@realafshow

Success and alcohol don't mix.

Wait, but why? šŸ¤”:

Ever notice how success and prestige in media often come with a cocktail in hand? The association between alcohol and professional success is more than just a cultural trope; itā€™s deeply embedded in how we view achievement and status.

The link:

  • Media Portrayal: Movies and TV shows often depict successful charactersā€”think CEOs or glamorous celebritiesā€”celebrating with a glass of champagne or a fine whiskey, reinforcing the idea that drinking is a sign of having "made it."

  • Advertising Glamour: Premium spirit ads link luxury and power with their product, selling an aspirational lifestyle intertwined with alcohol.

  • Business Culture: Networking events and client meetings frequently center around drinks, subtly suggesting that socializing and sealing deals often require a drink.

The illusion:

  • Success & sobriety: In reality, many successful people steer clear of heavy drinking. High achievers often choose moderate drinking or abstinence to maintain their performance, focus, and productivity.

  • Research reality: A study of the alcohol habits of 36 'very successful' people finds that the more you drink, the less you achieve.

Letā€™s redefine success:

  • Celebrate achievements your way: Mark milestones in ways that align with your valuesā€”be it through personal achievements, meaningful experiences, or unique traditions.

  • Focus on real accomplishments: Shift from external symbols of success to internal metrics like personal growth and impactful relationships.

  • Create new norms: Start or join alcohol-free celebrations and networking events. Show that success doesnā€™t need to be linked with drinking to be recognized or celebrated.

The takeaway: The link between alcohol and success is more illusion than reality. Successful people often avoid heavy drinking to maintain their edgeā€¦ just like Andy talks about above. šŸ‘†
